Playsession Newsletter!
Hi all !
Here is our first newsletter for 2008, a year that has started with very high attendance. Though we are missing our 4/5 year olds who are now schoolchildren, we have welcomed a lot of new members and enjoy a playgroup buzzing with babies and toddlers and the bigger children too!
Sessions With the beautiful weather we have had during this term, we have been enjoying a lot of playing in our beautiful playground under a bright sun. It is really nice to see such a variety of carers attending the sessions with the children, from mums and dads of course to nannies, but also an increasing number of lovely grandparents. Don’t forget that we value your feedback, it helps us to provide an environment where the children and their carers are happy. In an attempt to deal with the high numbers and spread the children over a bigger space, we have just opened an extra room (accessible from outside and situated on the right side of the kitchen). This is where you will find the craft/collage area from now on.
Equipment We are happy to announce that we have just bought some lovely new cars, as well as more paint brushes, aprons and craft materials.
Staff/Volunteers As the attendance have been rising, we needed more staff; Maria, whom you have known as a volunteer for a substantial time, has now joined the play leaders team for our Wednesday and Thursday sessions, and keeps working as a volunteer on Mondays. We wish to congratulate her for all her hard work as a volunteer, and warmly welcome her as a staff member as well. Also we want to give our very special thanks this term to Astrid, who has been a volunteer with us since November last year. Astrid is leaving Australia soon and we could not thank her enough for her huge help.
Little reminders Paint: This is an activity highly enjoyed by the children coming to the Centre and if we all work together we can keep it to a decent level of messiness! Can we please ask you to help us by encouraging your child to replace the brushes in the right color pot and by hanging the lovely artwork on the line? That would be great!
Prams and strollers: As you know traffic problems can be a hassle… at playgroup too! Due to the large numbers, we end up with many strollers and prams at the front of the building. To avoid blocking the access for the people arriving and the access to the doors, we ask you to leave your stroller at the end of the veranda (further than the tables under the awning). Please ensure your prams are not obstructing the emergency exit doors from the building. Thank you.
Music sessions: You are more than welcome to participate with your child as he/she will get more involved seeing that you are enjoying it too! Please keep your chat with a friend for later, but don’t hesitate to sing along. We love your input!
Parachute: If your children are not too tired, please stay until the end and after the pack-up time to enjoy with your children the rewards of the parachute play. It is a special time for all, full of smiles and sheer joy, and a nice way to close the morning for the children.
Job Vacancy Towards the end of Term 2, Ben will be moving to Ireland with her family. We are therefore looking for a dynamic new staff member to fill her permanent, part time position (15 hrs per week). The hours are from 9am till 2pm, 3 days a week (no playgroup on Fridays). If you are interested in this position or know someone who would be perfect for it, please let us know before we open the position to wider advertising. We’re asking around our Playgroup families first as you, more than anyone, will know that the requires a good level of fitness, endless energy, a good sense of humour, a constant supply of new ideas, experience and interest in interacting creatively with young children as well as good communication skills with parents and carers. It’s a big call, but a hugely rewarding job!
Of course, the position will be dealt with in all the normal processes – application and CV, referees and an interview by members of the Community Centre’s Management Committee and Centre Director.
Holidays Please note that the first day of a term is clean-up day for us. We make all the toys nice and clean for a healthy and safe term and since we’ll be handling chemical products there will not be any access to the playground on that day. We’ll be back for more play on Tuesday the 29th of April. Enjoy the holiday!
