Relief Printing with Lino

A practical, fun approach to Lino printing. This course is suitable for beginners to intermediates.

Discover how to transcribe your photos, images and drawings into a beautiful finished artwork with the help of a professional printmaker. In this one-day course you will learn the fundamentals of lino printing, from drawing and carving your image, to the inking and printing process. Learn about artists that have used lino printing, such as Margaret Preston, M. C. Escher, Henri Matisse & Pablo Picasso. Explore different printing techniques, including black and white prints, multi-coloured prints and watercoloured prints, all of which can be practised at home.

Bring some drawings, photos, or photocopied images with you, the more contrast of dark and light the better. Portraits or landscape images.   Art supplies can be purchased from: Call in advance sometimes things may need to be ordered.

All materials provided. If students have carving tools, or rollers please feel free to bring them. Bring an apron.

Tutor: Mark Rowden

Mark Rowden is a practising printmaker with more than 15 years' experience. After studying fine art in both the UK and Australia, he works for one of the oldest and leading fine art print making studios in Sydney, Whaling Road Studios, where he has printed for artists such as Charles Blackman, Martin Sharp, Adam Cullen & Mclean Edwards. As well as a skilled print maker, Mark also has an extensive knowledge of art materials as well as painting and drawing techniques. Mark won the Waverley Print Prize in 2008; most recently his work was exhibited as part of the 2014 International Print Biennale in Brazil. As a teacher, Mark is passionate about sharing his knowledge and helping others have fun with their art.
