LookDrawPrint - an imperfect workshop for the creatively curious.

Julie Paterson, the Woman of Cloth, has been drawing upon the local landscape as the source material for her textile designs for over 20 years. She has now simplified her creative methods into a three step process that she’s made into a workshop. She calls it LookDrawPrint. The process is dynamic, productive, challenging and playful. And it’s hands on from the start. You'll develop new ways of looking and a fresh approach to making. Using the local environment as the starting point you’ll explore creative mindfulness, embrace chance and imperfection and produce your own unique prototype textile design directly onto fabric.

Working alongside Julie in this relaxed and focussed space is a great opportunity to start or extend your own creative practice. Beginners are particularly encouraged because deep down we all know that creativity is an attitude before it becomes a skill. So be prepared to get your hands dirty, work hard and have fun.

Please note: there is a $30 price increase discrepancy from the printed price in our Course Guide, this is due to the fact that Julie is now bringing all materials for the workshop.

TUTOR

Julie Paterson

Julie Paterson is a painter, printmaker and designer of textiles. She owns a small fabric company called Cloth that I set up more than 20 years ago, because it made sense at the time and still does now. She works with a small team of people who love what they do, making textiles by hand, the old fashioned way. She understands the importance of collaboration with others for the joy of making something together that we couldn’t make alone. In Blackheath, Julie runs imperfect workshops for the creatively curious. She takes commissions and exhibits. Julie’s favourite place to be is working in her studio. Julie has also written a book and a manifesto to live by....“I live a simple life. It feels good.”
