Watercolours - Tuesday

Create soft and dramatic effects with the beautiful world of watercolours. Basic drawing skills, composition and tonal values covered along with dry and wet techniques and colour mixing. All levels welcome.

Beginners start with an introduction to watercolours; returning students either join in with the tutor’s instruction or continue with their own subjects.

For beginners, the first three weeks cover basic exercises to develop skills in using paint and water. In the first week start a simple still life to learn techniques which will be applied over the rest of the term. In the second week work with 3 shades of white to create a still life; and in the third week learn to loosen up and get bold with colour. After these first weeks continue with the program as set by the tutor, or if feeling comfortable you can start on your own subjects that inspire you.

Tutor: Lyndall McKee

Lyndall McKee was encouraged to embark on career as an artist by an award she received as a young teenager – the prestigious certificate of Merit in the Department of Education’s ‘Exhibitor of Child Art’. From this promising beginning she spent over 40 years studying, practising, exhibition and teaching her craft. She started her career as junior to prominent illustrators Jenny Sages and Jon Hawley, progressing to senior positions as a visualise and illustrator for many of Sydney’s leading advertising agencies. This has given her a sound understanding of the elements of graphic design and the creative process as it applies to the commercial world. Lyndall’s work is now centered on painting in watercolour and mixed media. She has exhibited widely, including two solo exhibitions. With the experience gained from a lifetime of studying art – full and part time – Lyndall has turned to teaching and now enjoys passing on her love of art to her students. She has taught illustration, drawing and visual techniques in graphic design to diploma level and currently conducts popular watercolour classes at our community centre.
