An Introduction to Print Media

A mixed-media print making course that invites beginners to learn popular types of printmaking and their application on a range of paper and textile surfaces. Explore Lino printing, Screen printing and Collagraph Etching over the 9 week course. Experimental applications of these processes are encouraged using ink and rollers. Be assisted to draw and design your own work while taking inspiration from famous print makers like Grace-Cossington Smith and M. C Escher. At the end of the course, create a beautiful portfolio of prints in a short time for display at the student exhibition, to use as gifts or to frame for home.

Although NSCC with provide some basic equipment for this course, from time to time you are encouraged to bring some additional items to class. If you are doing additional work to the activities allocated you will need to bring you own art materials. This will be discussed as a group.

Materials List

- re-usable Rubber gloves - Apron or paint shirt to protect you clothes - Art paper pad. Watercolour paper thickness. Can be A4 or A4 ( your local art supplies) or buy some Cold Pressed stone henge paper in large sheets and we can tear it up. - Your pencil case with eraser and pencil - Pad of trancing paper (base warehouse, officeworks etc) - Art diary - can be an old diary, just something for your print planning - Scrap plain fabric, old white t shirt. - Any inspiring books or images that you would like to reference

Tutor: Jessica Stalenberg

Jess is an experienced Textile Designer and Illustrator currently working for Australian Fashion Designer, Camilla. She has a background in Fine Art Printmaking and studied a BVA at Sydney College of the Arts. Jess loves to inspire in others to make beautiful fabrics and has been an art educator for years. She has taught screen-printing, mural art and natural dye. Jess lived in Fiji in 2010 -2011 where she worked as an arts worker for a local NGO.
