Develop your individual painting style…
Have you always wanted to paint but don’t know where to begin? Whether you are a beginner or have experience, this class is designed to develop your individual painting style. Scott Owen explains and demonstrates the essential techniques of painting in a logical and simple way. Learn how to choose the composition of a painting, develop your drawing skills, mix colours, the application of paint and how to capture dynamic light and shade. In a relaxed and social environment, develop a variety of skills to build confidence in your own ability as an artist.
Course details:We will study the work of Australian painters like Albert Namatjira, Arthur Streeton, Margaret Preston, E. Phillips Fox and Grace Cossington Smith, who were all exciting painters with very individual styles. In addition, painters like Euan Uglow, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet and Lois Dodd will provide inspiration – and suggestions from students are very welcome. We will break down the process into steps, learning about constructing form and depth, underpainting, sketching, composition, palette (choice of colour), tonal contrast, layering, the use of different brushes for various purposes, correcting or changing elements, making decisions, and final details. Along the way, students will find they have more confidence in the painting process as they develop adaptability and skill.
The tutor will walk you through painting exercises, assist in the creation of your own body of work and act as a consultant if students wish to pursue their own projects.
