Violin Beginners

Learning how to read music and play the violin will enhance ones’ appreciation of the joy of music through a different perspective.

Over 9 weeks, in this small group class, be introduced to the world and possibilities of the violin. Respected violinist and teacher Michele brings solo, ensemble and orchestral experience and knowledge from a career that spans the Sydney music scene, and beyond. An experienced teacher, Michele understands the daunting prospect of learning violin as an adult and the frustrations that can come with ‘starting at the beginning’ and will expertly guide you through getting to know and understand this instrument, with a learning program and arrangements designed for the adult learner.

Opportunities for group playing experiences for adult beginners are not easily available. The small group setting of this class, with a minimum of 3 students and maximum of 6, allows you to meet and learn alongside other adult learners, creating a supportive environment for shared learning.

Get to know the violin: how to hold it, care for it and build solid foundations in playing, reading music and understanding rhythm.

By the end of 1 term, students should be able to read music fluently, understand basic rhythm, play G, D and A major scales, and perhaps a bit of Bach, Beethoven or Pachelbel.

This class is limited to 6 students. Suitable for complete beginners, and those with some basic experience. If you have had previous experience, please contact NSCC before enrolling, to ensure that this class will be right for you.

*During COVID: Students studying on-site at NSCC will be expected to assist their tutor in a post-course clean down of the room & anything used during this time. Please understand we are putting in strict protocols across the board to ensure the safety of our entire community.
