Corona Choir Continues! Songs of Oz

Join Rob Bullen and the Corona Band for this joyful experience of online singing.

In Term 1 2021, the Corona Choir will sing songs written by Australians (of all eras) about Australia or Australian culture. They range from evocations of landscape (Dan Sultan's "Kimberley Calling") to city life ("Friday On My Mind"); they cover serious issues ("Beds Are Burning", "To Her Door") and some plain fun ("The Real Thing", "Eagle Rock"). Many songs you will know, some you won't.

Join us for another great time discovering how we can interact, make music and have fun even if we don't quite think it's safe to sing together live yet.

From one participant: "a fun, connected and successful experience during these novel Covid conditions.”

The choir works like this.

  • For each of the first six weeks you can download audio tracks for two songs, recorded by our band, as well as words and music, from the choir website.
  • On Monday nights we all sing the songs together in a Zoom session (and have some fun). You record your voice and send the recordings to Rob.
  • Within about a day Rob will combine your recordings to make a “choir” recording which you can hear from the web site.
  • On the sixth week we choose three songs, and over the next three weeks we each record videos of us singing those songs. Rob will make combined videos of the choir performing them “together” which will go on YouTube for us and everyone else to admire.

You will need a computer or tablet for the Zoom session plus a phone to make the recording.

You can find more information from the choir web site:

**This class will be delivered online in, using the Zoom video platform. To take part, you will need to download and install Zoom from the internet, and set up a free ‘basic’ account. NSCC uses platforms that we trust, but we encourage you to be aware of computer safety and protect your personal information when using the internet.

Tutor: Rob Bullen

Rob has played jazz, rock’n’roll, folk and various other musical styles for “a very long time”, singing and playing guitar or bass. He has performed in groups and solo. Rob has been an enthusiastic member of various choirs, and previously ran the very successful “Road to Motown,” “Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club,” “Rolling Stones,” “Songs of Oz,”"Songs About The Weather," and "Songs about Growing Up" choirs. “Songs about Travelling” Choir is set to be just as interesting. Nothing too difficult, and definitely no pressure – the emphasis is on fun.
