Yin/Yang yoga is a practice that balances the slow-paced Yin yoga with the traditional Yang yoga (Hatha).
Yin/Yang yoga has its roots in China in the Taoist concepts of yin which is a feminine, passive, cooling energy, while yang is a masculine, dynamic, warming energy.
Just as the Taoists believe that yin and yang complement each other and one cannot exist without the other, the Yin/Yang yoga practice uses both types of yoga to provide physical, mental, emotional and spiritual balance.
Yang yoga is the more traditional, hatha based asana practice that develops muscular strength, stamina, and flexibility.
In Yin Yoga the poses are held for a long period of time, typically three to five minutes or longer. This is to target the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, rather than focus on the muscles. The poses are more passive holds, with little active engagement of the muscles.
Yin/Yang Yoga is a class that balances the Yin yoga practice for half of the class with traditional Yang yoga practices for the other half of the class. The classes will be season orientated to harmonise and balance the mind, body and soul.
All levels welcome to this 50 minute class.
