French Beginners

***This class will be held on-site at North Sydney Community Centre.***

Start here: For beginners...

Whatever your motivation to learn another language is, be it for upcoming travel, to sharpen your cognitive skills, to improve your memory, to learn more about the French culture or just to have fun - begin your journey here! Experience the exhilaration of understanding a new concept and grasping a particular rule. In a small class, tutors take time to explain concepts, provide the opportunity to practice French in conversation and make learning a language fun.

LEVEL 1:

Focus on the practical use of a language in everyday situations; basic conversation, greetings, useful vocabulary and some cultural immersion. Verbs, conjugation, elementary discourse and grammar are included.

*Please note class levels are subject to change depending on enrolment numbers and student abilities within each class. Students moving to a new level may need to change the day of their attendance. For repeat students, please ask your teacher for advice when re-enrolling about a suitable class for your level. For new students, please contact us to discuss further your level of experience. We look forward to finding the right class for you!

**During COVID: Students studying on-site at NSCC will also be expected to assist their tutor in a post-course clean down of the room & anything used during this time. Please understand we are putting in strict protocols across the board to ensure the safety of our entire community.

Recommended but not essential: Grammaire Progressive du français  - Niveau Débutant by Maia Grégoire - Cle International

Tutor: Nathalie Suet

I am a native French speaker and have been living in Australia for the last 20 years. Prior to that, I lived in France, West Africa and Tahiti. I obtained the LOTE Diploma - Teaching French as a Foreign Language - at UNSW as well as other degrees in different fields in Paris and Great Britain. I have been teaching French in Sydney since 2003 and to students of all levels at Mosman Community College for 9 years as well as to HSC students. I have been teaching at the NSCC since 2016 and it has been a wonderful experience. Beside teaching, I did some translations for Oxfam for a few years (monthly newsletters) and for International Aid projects in DRC (Congo) up to now. I use a communicative and interactive learning method in a relaxed ‘ambiance’ to enhance the students’ communication skills and build up their confidence to speak French with ease in everyday situation.
