Starting online via Zoom
Classes will resume on-site after lockdown, when it is safe to do so.
This class is limited to 12 enrolments.
Start here: A course for those who have never studied Italian previously...
Focus on language in everyday situations; basic conversation, greetings, useful vocabulary and some cultural immersion. Verbs, conjugation, elementary discourse and grammar are included.
Whatever your motivation to learn another language, be it for upcoming travel, to sharpen your cognitive skills, to improve your memory, increase your understanding of your own culture...or just to have fun, begin your journey here. From the exhilaration of understanding a new concept to the frustration of not being able to grasp a particular rule, within small classes tutors take time to explain concepts and make learning a language fun.
**Please note class levels are subject to change depending on enrolment numbers and student abilities within each class. For repeat students, please ask your teacher for advice when re-enrolling about a suitable class for your level. For new students, please contact us to discuss further your level of experience. We look forward to finding the right class for you!
**This class will be delivered online using the Zoom video platform. To take part, you will need to download and install Zoom from the internet, and set up a free ‘basic’ account. NSCC uses platforms that we trust, but we encourage you to be aware of computer safety and protect your personal information when using the internet.
*During COVID: We ask students for on-site classes to assist their tutor in a post-course clean down of surfaces and equipment they have used during this time. Thank you for helping us ensure the safety of our entire community. Recommended but not essential: Schaum’s Outline of Italian Grammar. Any edition can be used, so second hand books are ok. Available from Amazon, Booktopia, Abbeys or Dymocks.
Although born in Australia, I am considered a near- native Italian speaker, and have studied in Italy for extended periods of time. I have been teaching adults for many years at various places, such as The Centre for Continuing Education at The University of Sydney, The WEA in Sydney, The Five Dock Learning Centre, and privately. Besides teaching adults, I have also worked as an Interpreter/Translator and I also teach children from pre-school age up to HSC Level Italian. My approach is quite an organic one as I tend to draw upon the here and now in order to encourage spontaneity and easy flow conversation. We are to enjoy our Italian experience and not to sweat it out!
