Homebrewing

Ever wanted to offer a beer to friends that you have made yourself? Learn the basics of homebrewing.....the techniques, equipment, and ingredients needed to complete a partial mash brew. The first week's session will go through the process up to fermentation, and during the second session we will package the beer to take home.

We are thrilled that Flat Rock Brewery is a regular stall holder at the Northside Produce Market with their delicious tasting brews. See the markets page on our website for more details.

Tutor: Karl Riseborough

Karl Riseborough had wanted to learn how to make beer and after moving from England to Naremburn in Sydney, he felt the time was right and the opportunity arose. After mastering the craft, he went on to open the Flat Rock Brew Cafe in Naremburn, the heart of which is centred around the small scale brewery located downstairs in the café supplying their fresh and exciting brews. Beer is certainly the focus but he also creates soft drinks made with fresh fruit which make a delicious non-alcoholic alternative on a hot day. In 2015, Karl and Flat Rock Brew cafe joined Northside Produce Market. When asked by the market manager Lisa MacDonald if would he be interested in making a brew for the ‘Honey, Honey’ market event, Karl jumped in and joined forces with stallholder Australian Honey Cellars to create a mead that sold out. For our upcoming 20 year anniversary Northside Produce Market, we will be treated to a special celebratory ale. For those of you would who love to learn how to make your own home brew, jump online to the North Sydney Community Centre website to find the latest of Karl’s classes on offer. The next one is on Sunday, September 1st –a great Fathers Day treat.
