Open Day Tasting: Scones with Barbara

Dig in at our NSCC Adult Classes Open Day!

Welcome to the NSCC Sampler box - a collection of classes and introductions to the courses we teach.

Love food? Love books? Love the gentle art of afternoon tea? Barbara Sweeney does, and so she offers a regular baking class x social event: Scones & Afternoon Tea at NSCC. The humble scone has a rich history and commands quite the conversation around method and ingredients, all of which is explored in Barbara’s classes!

At our Open Day, come and meet our tutor and try some of her delicious Scones!

But will she serve them with butter or cream….?

A second tasting will also be provided at 2:45-3:15pm

**Limited places are available due to COVID restrictions: this class is open to students who have not taken a photography class with us before!

**During COVID: on-site students are asked to assist their tutor in a post-class clean down of the room & equipment used. At NSCC we are working together to ensure the safety of our entire community.

Tutor: Barbara Sweeney

Barbara Sweeney learned to cook from books and draws on that knowledge, as well as the farm visits she gets to experience in her job as food writer for Country Style, to present cooking classes that combine information and stories about the ingredients that are used in the class, and their maker, as well as smart, funny and odd cooking hacks gleaned from cookbooks past and present. Barbara has worked alongside some of the world’s leading chefs (yes, including Mr Ottolenghi) when she was co-ordinator of the Sydney Morning Herald World Chef Showcase (yes, more hacks). She regularly interviews chefs and cookbook authors and organises the annual food writers’ festival Food & Words. In her spare time, she pops up as a Talking Cookbook at farmers’ markets and food events: it’s a project that gets people sharing cooking ideas and hacks and encourages non-cooks to learn to cook. Not only because it makes sense and is good for you, but because it’s fun.
