Right now, there is a lot of uncertainty and fear in the world, but there is resilience and reassurance in communities like ours, and we are fortunate in some ways that the internet can bring us together, even when we are ’socially distanced’. The HoW food bank has been hit hard by this crisis, as the basic grocery supplies usually requested to help asylum seeker and refugee families have been hard to come by in supermarkets, and major suppliers in the hospitality industry have been forced to close. Refugees on Bridging Visas aren’t eligible for Government relief payments and are reliant on donations and services provided by organisations such as HoW. If you are able to, please show your support by donating via the link below, and deliver a much needed ‘virtual’ bag of groceries and supplies to families that need it.
Message from the House of Welcome:
Firstly, the House of Welcome would like to thank all those supported the food drive organised by North Sydney Community Centre last year in April-May. The food drive was also planned for this year and scheduled to commence on 3rdof April, the day of theIn Conversation: Truth Be Toldevent at NSCC. The event has been postponed, but the food drive does not have to be! The House of Welcome still operates its services (although adjusted to current times) and offers access to free food for people seeking asylum.
Please, contribute to keeping the foodbank running by making monetary donations that will be used to purchase most needed food items.
