During 2019, Northside Produce Market celebrates its 20th year of trading. We couldn’t have done it without all of the dedicated North Sydney Community Centre staff and volunteers, our wonderful customers and of course all of our fabulous stallholders. Throughout the year we will feature some of the stallholders so that you can discover a little more of their story.
30 years ago, Ben Clinch’s parents purchased a property at Barraba in North West, NSW. As kids they grew up collecting chicken eggs, weeding the vegie garden, milking the cow and producing their own meat. The idea of selling their meat commercially had been in the embryonic stages for some years however the catalyst came after eating a non-descript grain fed steak at one of Sydney’s best restaurants. There was better steak sitting in their fridge at home! The Free Range Butcher began formally in 2008 and in 2009 they joined Northside Produce Market. ‘We love the atmosphere of the market, connecting with the passionate foodies, families and individuals and helping them with their meal planning with recipe ideas and bulk cooking or budget saving tips’.
‘Our beautiful family run Smoke and Spice business started back in NZ in 2003. We launched The Original Smoke & Spice Company – Australia in 2011 bringing our unique Smoked Salt and Smoked garlic to Sydney which had never been seen before. Over the last eight years we have gone from strength to strength and have evolved and created an enormous range of other smoked delights. My pride and joy are my Smoked Almonds, Cashews and Walnuts. We have traded at the wonderful Northside Produce Markets now for over 6 years and it is one of my favourite markets in Sydney. It has an incredible array of delicious handmade treats and fresh produce and we are so proud to be a part of this twice monthly market.’
