I'm so excited that Nonie’s gluten free bakery is joining Northside Produce Market. Having worked as a chef in dynamic places such as the River Cottage in England, Nonie knows good food. Diagnosed with coeliac disease 26 years ago, Nonie watched gluten-free offerings grow but found they lacked something and so Nonie’s Food came into being 6 years ago. At her stall will be Nonie's signature bread's - Seedy Brown, Activated Charcoal & Quinoa, Fig & Almond, Light Golden, Pitas and seasonal baked delights such as Cinnamon scrolls, Honey cake, Passionfruit slices, Pasties and more.
We take our hats off to Marisa Grieco for recently returning to Uni to study postgraduate human nutrition. Marisa's curiosity regarding diet and health combined with her baking skills (thanks Mum!) is what led her to originally creating MG Food Co – a range of granolas that taste great and are actually good for you. With this greater knowledge of macro and micronutrients and how our bodies extract these from our food and use them, Marisa can’t wait to identify which granola variety is best fit for your dietary requirements.
Darling Mills Farm have their first harvest of Nepitella for this season. Steven Adey was asked to grow the native Tuscan herb by chef Danielle Alvarez at Fred’s restaurant in Paddington due to it’s combined flavour of oregano, mint and basil. It’s strong flavour works well in savoury dishes, compliments rich fatty meats such as pork, lamb and beef and can be added to recipes where oregano is traditionally used.
Maria River Distillery launch their Mandarincello at Northside in time for the long weekend. It’s the first of their ‘Tiny Batch’ range of spirits and liquors that are inspired by seasonal fruits and botanicals. There are only 500 bottles available in each batch so don’t miss out on this vibrant mandarin rich cello perfect for Spring. Enjoy over ice or with tonic water for a delightful afternoon and evening treat.
With an extra day to relax with family and friends, what better way to do it than with delicious food. From an easy serving of fresh prawns from Royale Peyton Blue, crunchy crudites dipped into Brilliant Food’s smoked fish rillettes to great cuts of meat barbecued from The Free Range Butcher and Sutton Forrest Meat & Wine. Let’s not forget the big breakies with Trunkey Creek Bacon and Pork sausages. I suggest pre-ordering.
The ‘Top Paddock’ of the market has a bumper crop of stalls from Crumpets By Merna, Pepe Saya, Sonoma , Avocadoes from Bobs Farm, Bitter & Dark, The Little Coffee Co to the newly sprung Food Theatre, Wholefood & Spice, Mix Masala, Organic Barn, Untrashy and The Gourmet Potato – Kadwell who will have even more spuds so not to sell out as early this time round.
Great news that West Walla Farm will have their Egg Keep Cartons once again which reminds me to remind you to BYO Keep Cup to the market this Saturday morning.
I’m looking forward to a relaxed, long weekend Northside Produce Market and to us all shopping in a Covid-19 safe way.
Lisa MacDonald, Northside Produce Market Coordinator.
