Northside Produce Market - Saturday April 17

Autumn warmers are here! Heritage pumpkins make for delicious soup, gnocchi or simply roasted. Whilst at the market, breakfast, brunch or lunch on brilliant hot seafood chowder. For a delectable sweet treat to compliment your hot drinks, nougat made with fine couverture chocolate is a winner.

Owl Farm’s pumpkin season will be a short one this year due to the recent, unprecedented deluge David and Sarah received in Braidwood. So while the sun shines, make soup from the Rouge Vif d’Etampes (Cinderella pumpkin), roast the Jarrahdale Grey or the Italian Tondo Padana, an heirloom variety from Venice that’s also great for gnocchi.

Nougat Royale is back. We’ve missed this delicious, gluten free handcrafted, hand cut and hand wrapped nougat. Chef Ben Lockett’s surprise of using fine couverture chocolate won us over immediately and we’re excited by his upcoming collaboration with stallholder Chunky Dave’s Peanut Butter.

With these chillier temperatures, Brilliant Food’s steamy 'n creamy delicious Seafood Chowder is back on the Eat In menu at Northside Produce Market. BYO cup, mug or flask for those of you who are addicted like us! A sprinkle of glorious garnish will top it off when served at home.

In Orange, Mayfarm Flowers are having an Autumn flush of some rare and beautiful heritage roses. Chris May is in his element picking Homage to Barbara, named after his Mum, Bell of Berlin, Soul Sister, Cote d’Azure and more. Perfume and decorate your home with these stunners.

Show some love to the Grimas and support Theresa and Sam as they fight the State Government for fair compensation for acquisition of their family home near their farm in Horsley Park. They are being uprooted to make way for the Orchard Hills station.

North Sydney Council Bushcare staff and volunteers are loaded with information on local flora and fauna. Find out how to grow your own edible, native plants, what local plants best suit your garden and pick up free, native seedlings grown at the Coal Loader nursery.

Don’t miss out on our 8.30am Seniors Only ‘Behind the Scenes’ Northside Produce Market tour. Only a few places left so book now on our North Sydney Community Centre website.

For the under 60s yet to experience one of our great ‘Behind the Scenes’ market tours led by the wonderful Tawnya Bahr, sign up for our next tour on May 1st.

I look forward to this Saturday’s market, experiencing the cooler temperatures and the produce that this time of year brings to the market.
