Whether you are a beginner or have previous experience working with wood, this workshop is the perfect way to create unique Christmas décor and gifts.
In this hands-on workshop, you will have the chance to craft one or more custom wooden items such as:
- Presentation boards shaped like Christmas bells, trees, gingerbread men and stars
- Tree decorations in festive shapes like candy canes, bells, stars and more
- Star- or Christmas tree-shaped coasters (or simple squares or rounds)
- A stunning Christmas tree centerpiece with an enclosed hanging bauble – a project you will be proud to display!
With the expert guidance of David Searson, a member of the Woodworkers Association of NSW, you will gain hands-on experience with power tools like electric sanders, scroll saws and drill presses, while also improving your skills with basic hand tools.
Each project is designed to be beginner-friendly, taking about an hour to complete, depending on your skill level and preferences. You can make one of each item, focus on multiple cutting boards, or create a collection of ornaments.
There will also be time to personalise your pieces with painting or finishing.
This is the perfect opportunity to create thoughtful, handmade holiday gifts or decorations for your own home.
Spaces are limited, so be sure to book early!
All materials and tools are provided – just bring your enthusiasm and holiday cheer!

David Searson
David lives in St Leonards, is an active member of the Woodworkers Association of NSW, and has a small work space in Artarmon.
Living in a Sydney apartment himself, David will be focused on teaching people how to use basic tools, understand timber that's readily available locally, and how to cut, carve, sand, polish, and use tradtional finishes to create beautiful and lasting peices that you'll be proud to show to friends and family.
David makes pieces of all sorts - his food-related items like cutting boards, spatulas, baker's tools etc are on sale at the Northside Produce Markets. Over many decades, he has also made things like a spinning wheel, several tables, various boxes, kitchen cupboards, book-binders tools, carved spoons, a Norwegian Fiddle, and he does the occasional restoration of antiques.
