Woodwork for Beginners - Toolbox/Caddy

Course Overview

Make a multi-functional carry/storage unit in this one day workshop
What you’ll learn
  • How to measure, mark, and cut accurate timber joints
  • A mix of basic and advanced hand-tool techniques
  • Sanding, smoothing, and preparing for finishing
  • Understanding timber grain and how to use a plane
  • Safe and effective use of hand tools and power tools
What you’ll make
  • A hand crafted, practical garden rug, tool box, or caddy
  • Each will be unique, with opportunities for personal design and shape
Tools/materials
  • Timber, glues and hand tools are provided
  • Some power tools will be available for optional use
  • Stamps, pyro tools, sandpapers and finishing oils are provided
Clothing & Safety
  • No loose or long sleeves
  • Sturdy, closed-toe shoes
  • Long hair tied back
  • Careful attention around sharp hand tools and machinery
On the day
  • David will guide you through every stage of creating a functional timber carry-all.  You’ll learn hand-tool techniques, how to read the timber, and how to shape timber safely and confidently.
  • There will also be a discussion and demonstration on finishing, and caring for timber over time.

  • Complete beginners and hobbyists with some tool experience
