Sign Language: Auslan
Course Overview
Introduction to Auslan 1 is designed for people who have no prior experience with Auslan.
Students will learn basic skills to communicate with Deaf people on a variety of everyday topics.
The beginner courses are offered in a fun, informal, and relaxed in-person setting.
Students will learn:
- Greeting others and introducing themselves
- Giving and requesting personal details such as phone numbers and addresses
- Counting in Auslan
- Fingerspelling in Auslan
- Asking and answering simple questions (using “who”, “what”, “when”, “where”, etc.)
- Learning practical vocabulary, including colours, days of the week and family members
- Developing effective visual-gestural communication skills
- Learning about the Deaf Community and its culture
- Practicing effective communication strategies for interacting with Deaf people
Term 4 Dates
Term 4 for Auslan runs from Tuesday 22 October to Tuesday 10 December.
Materials List
- Pen and paper for note taking
- Device to access internet
