Bolga Basket Weaving Workshop

Course Overview

Join experienced weaver Godwin Yidana and learn the traditional art of Bolga basket weaving while creating your own small basket from recycled materials.

Godwin has been weaving since he was 15 and has been teaching workshops in Sydney since 2013, sharing both his craft and the cultural stories of the Grueni people of Northern Ghana.

Godwin Yidana

Godwin Yidana is an experienced weaver and facilitator who has taught and facilitated basket weaving workshops across Australia since 2013.
 
Godwin grew up in Bolgatanga in Northern Ghana learning how to weave Bolga Basket at age 5. 
 
In Godwin's culture, weaving is the way the older generation passes on the ways of life of his community to the younger generation. 
 
Godwin enjoys teaching basket weaving but also enjoys telling the story of his people from Northern Ghana and why basket weaving is such an important part of his culture.
Godwin plays soccer and dances during his spare time. He also works in international development, conflict transformation and peacebuilding.
