1. Introduction to Ikebana:

Gain insights into the history and philosophy of Ikebana.
 Learn about the Sogetsu school of Ikebana, one of the most contemporary and dynamic schools in Japan.

2. Live Demonstrations:

Watch live demonstrations of traditional and modern Ikebana techniques.
Learn the basics of arranging flowers in a simpler format, ideal for beginners.

3. Hands-On Creation:

Create your own Ikebana arrangement using the techniques demonstrated.
Receive personalized guidance and ideas from the instructor to help you design your unique style of arrangement.

4. Inspiration for Home Arrangements:

Get inspired with practical ideas and tips on how to create stunning Ikebana arrangements at home.
Leave with the confidence and knowledge to continue your Ikebana practice independently.

Materials to Bring:
  • A pair of secateurs
  • A plastic bowl to snip stems under water
  • A couple of vases of your choice
  • Greenery, flowers, and a few branches or bark
  • A kenzan (if you have one)
  • A small watering can
  • Some thin wire (if available)
  • A stapler (may be useful)
  • Old newspaper for cuttings and wrapping flowers

This workshop is perfect for anyone interested in the art of flower arranging, from beginners to those with some experience. By the end of the session, you will have created a beautiful Ikebana arrangement and gained valuable skills to enhance your floral designs at home.

About the tutor

Susan Solomon

Susie comes from Cape Town, South Africa. She completed Art School in ceramics in the late 70s in Cape Town, South Africa. Susie continued Artwork in London in the 1970's. She attended the School of Colour and Design in Sydney Australia between 1990 -1992 and in 1993 Susie attended the University of Berkley, California and completed further courses in Design and Colour. In 1996 she moved to Singapore and started ceramic and Ikebana, achieving a diploma in the Arts at National School of Fine Arts. Susie’s paintings and ceramics have been shown in numerous galleries, including her first private exhibition at the Sunjin Gallery Singapore in 2012. She has also participated in further exhibitions in Sydney and Malaysia. Susie ‘s unique Ikebana arrangements are popular at private dinners and restaurant’s and she became a Japanese Master of the School of Sogetsu Japan in 2013.
