Kids Ceramics Essentials (Ages 9-12)
Course Overview
This 9-week course, running during the school term, introduces the essentials of hand-built pottery in an age-appropriate and engaging way.
Over the term, students will experience the complete making process - building, decorating, and firing their own creations to take home at the end.
In the first 3-4 weeks, they will explore foundational pottery skills such as coil and slab building, then combine these techniques to create a variety of unique forms.
The remaining weeks focus on decorating through sculpting, carving, and painting. Final pieces will be finished with a clear glaze and fired, ready to take home.
While the course is centred on pottery, it also aims to equip young students with a creative toolkit to express their artistic vision and take pride in their own work.

About the tutor
Victoria De Aboitiz
Hi, I am Victoria! I studied Ceramics in various studios in South America. I've been teaching at NSCC since 2022. My background influences my understanding of ceramics by highlighting the conception of community and cultural ceramic traditions in the making and guides me to work with local materials extracted by myself. I'm constantly learning from all environments, exploring techniques and technologies in my studio in Sydney's Inner West. Bridging different worlds is a special place for my work to occur in.
