Machine Sewing Beginners/Intermediate

Whether you're just starting out or looking to build on the basics, this course is designed to support you at your level. You'll learn practical sewing skills in a relaxed, small-group setting while building confidence and creativity.

Bring your own sewing machine and enjoy hands-on guidance tailored to your experience. Throughout the course, you'll explore:

• How to set up, maintain, and troubleshoot your machine

• Stitch control and understanding your machine’s capabilities

• Different seams, finishes, and pattern cutting techniques

• Tips for refining your sewing technique and working with a range of fabrics

By the end of the course, you’ll have created a finished garment that reflects your progress—whether it's your first time at the machine or you're polishing up your skills.

This course will teach you sewing basics and get you well on your way to creating beautiful handmade items for yourself and your loved ones.

What You Will Learn

• How to thread your machine and wind a bobbin
• How to set up your machine, including basic part names and functions
• How to create a simple pattern
• How to cut and pin fabric
• How to sew straight lines and zig-zag stitches
• Basic seam construction, neatening techniques, and pressing

What to Bring

• Sewing machine
• Good-quality thread (please avoid cheap threads, we recommend Rasant or Gutterman) 
• Tape measure
• Fabric scissors
• Thread snips or embroidery scissors
• Seam ripper
• Pearl-headed pins
• 1 metre woven cotton fabric 
• Bodkin or safety pin fabric marker
