German Beginners

Course Overview

This course is perfect for those with little or no prior knowledge!

At this early stage of the learning process, the correct pronunciation of German words is a strong focus of the teaching in addition to some basic grammar. You will start with essential vocabulary, pronunciation and simple grammar.

By the end of the course, you will confidently introduce yourself, order food, navigate public transport, and engage in basic conversations - all while gaining insights into German culture.

Students will also be asked to read and understand simple poems and recite them in class. 

Course Breakdown

Week 1: Pronunciation of German words /the Umlauts/simple phrases in German

Week 2: Numbers/how to count in German/read a restaurant bill/timetable

Week 3: Days of the week/months/introducing oneself

Week 4: Verbs to be & to have/role play restaurant/guest & waiter

Week 5: Visit to the doctor/make appointment/ where’s the pain?

Week 6: Asking for directions/where is the train station?/buying tickets

Week 7: The gender of nouns/endings of adjectives

Week 8: Reading and reciting a poem/summary of course 

This outline provides an overview of what may be covered during the course; however, changes may occur based on various factors and the needs of the class.

Term Dates 

Term 1 runs from Friday 6 February to Friday 27 March 

Term 2 runs from Friday 24 April to Friday 12 June 

Term 3 runs from Friday 24 July  to Friday 11 September 

Term 4 runs from Friday 16 October to Friday 4 December

What to bring 

Please bring a pen and paper for note-taking. Worksheets and reading materials will be provided in each class.
