Afternoon Tea Treats (10-14 year olds)

Bake • Taste • Take Home

In this hands‑on baking workshop, students will explore the fun tradition of afternoon tea - a time to share sweet and savoury treats with friends and family.

They’ll learn how to make three delicious classics: a chewy muesli slice, fluffy chocolate muffins, and crisp sugar biscuits. It’s the perfect introduction to baking, ingredients and kitchen confidence.

What We’ll Do

Kitchen Safety & Welcome Learn the basics of safe, clean, and confident cooking.

Baking in Teams Students rotate through three fun baking stations:

- Muesli Bar Slice - mix oats, seeds, dried fruit, and honey into chewy bars

- Chocolate Muffins - make batter, portion into cases, and bake

- Sugar Biscuits - roll dough, cut shapes, and decorate once baked

Group Tasting & Discussion Share what we made and learn how each treat comes together.

Clean‑Up Crew Build good kitchen habits by tidying as a team.

Yvette Henderson

Growing up in an Italian household, my family life was all about traditional cooking and making meals from scratch and being together.

My Mamma was an excellent cook and I paid very close attention. I am a keen home cook and regularly bake for fun as well as bake cakes to order.

In addition to teaching adult cooking classes at North Sydney Community Centre, I feel very strongly that children and teens learn the basic skills and knowledge to be able to make nourishing food as well as fun food for themselves and their families and gaining that important kitchen confidence to take them into adult life.
