Creative Writing Workshop, Starting Your Story
Course Overview
The biggest challenge faced by many writers is starting and finishing the first draft. Whether you’re writing a short story or a novel, this two-session workshop will help get your words and ideas onto paper.
In the first week, we’ll cover storytelling, point of view, conflict and drama.
In the second week, we’ll learn how to critically and constructively self-edit your writing through examination of language, characterisation and pacing.
Week One
· Understanding what a story is.
· Writing a synopsis: Where, when, who, what happens, why?
· Active writing session.
· Homework – finish 5 pages (1500-2000 words) and select 300 words to submit.
Week Two
· Language.
· Characterisation.
· Pacing.
· Sharing work.
By the end of the two-week workshop you will have written a first chapter and learnt the importance of drafts and revisions.
