Tango Improvers

Course Overview

Take your tango to the next level with this 9-week course designed for dancers who are confident with the basics and ready to explore more complex patterns, musicality, and connection.

Each week introduces new movements and techniques to help you move with greater confidence, style, and fluidity on the dance floor.

You can enrol with a partner or come solo – everyone is welcome!

Our supportive environment ensures that all dancers can progress at their own pace while enjoying the joy of dancing with others.

Course Outline:

Week 1 – Parallel Basic Combination (8 counts): Refine your basics and develop smooth, flowing sequences.

Week 2 – Cross System Basic with Double Time: Add versatility and energy with faster-paced cross-system steps.

Week 3 – Figures of Eight (Circular, Both Ways): Master elegant circular patterns and smooth transitions.

Week 4 – Change of Direction – Parallel (Cadenas): Learn directional changes to expand your improvisational skills.

Week 5 – Change of Direction – Cross System: Practice cross-system directional changes for dynamic floorcraft.

Week 6 – Rebounds – Parallel System: Explore rebounds to enhance control, balance, and musicality.

Week 7 – Rebounds – Cross System: Continue refining rebound movements in cross-system patterns.

Week 8 – Molinetes (Carrousel): Perfect iconic circular figures and rotational sequences with precision.

Week 9 – Giros (Turns): Apply turning techniques with style, flow, and confidence.

By the end of this course, you will have a richer repertoire of figures, improved floor presence, and the ability to dance more fluidly with any partner.

Term 1 runs from Friday 6 February to Friday 27 March (8 week course due to public holiday)

Term 2 runs from Friday 24 April to Friday 19 June

Term 3 runs from Friday 24 July to Friday 18 September

Term 4 runs from Friday 16 October to Friday 11 December

Pedro Alvarez

My name is Pedro Alvarez, I have been teaching Argentinian Tango since 2000 via Patio de Tango and Esquina de Tango.

 

I am the 2009 Australian Tango Salon Champion and have been dancing Tango all my life. I learned as a child, working in a Tango club in Buenos Aires.

 

I have been running regular Tango events since the early 2000s and have instructed all over Australia and New Zealand.
