Course Overview
Learn how to make Kusama-Inspired Cheese Boards & Plates
Join us for a fun and creative 3 hours hand building clay workshop, where you’ll learn how to make your own slab-built cheese board and decorative plate inspired by the playful world of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.
Working with clay slabs, you’ll learn the basics of cutting, shaping, joining and texturing clay to create your own unique pieces. You’ll then have the opportunity to decorate your creations using dots, repetition, organic forms and bold patterns, taking inspiration from Kusama’s instantly recognisable visual language.
Your pieces will be carefully dried, glazed and kiln-fired after the workshop, ready for you to collect once they’re finished.
Come along, get your hands dirty and create something bold, playful and uniquely yours!
No previous experience is needed, this workshop is run in a relaxed, welcoming and playful atmosphere, and is suitable for beginners.
Please note: All materials and firing are included.

Sherelyn Cullen
Sherelyn is an emerging artist living and working in Sydney. Focusing on slip casting and hand building, she explores light and movement through her unique ceramic creations which are architecturally and structurally inspired.
Bolivia is her cultural background, where colour is an important part of regional identities. Colour is an essential element of her design and storytelling.
Having developed a love for shaping clay by hand, Sherelyn's work is experimental, playful and occasionally accidental. What energises her are pieces with tactile qualities, functionality and most importantly bring joy when viewed and used.
Sherelyn completed her Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts (Ceramics) in 2024. Alongside her own creative practice, she’s passionate about sharing her love for pottery through teaching.
Sherelyn's work has been exhibited in various shows from 2022 to 2026, including the Australian Ceramics Open Studios, Kerrie Lowe Gallery, the Sydney Easter Show, Gallery Lane Cove, and her solo graduation exhibition in Hornsby.
