Watercolours Advanced

Course Overview

Advanced techniques for mastering the art of watercolour painting!

Take your watercolour skills to the next level in this relaxed, studio-style course designed for experienced painters. You'll have the opportunity to refine your technique, develop your own artistic style, and explore new creative possibilities in a supportive and inspiring environment.

This course is designed for those who want to expand their knowledge of watercolour techniques while working independently on their own projects. Rather than following a set program of weekly exercises, you'll have the freedom to pursue your own artistic interests, receive personalised guidance, and engage in discussions with your tutor and fellow artists.

Lyndall, our experienced instructor, will provide individual feedback, practical advice, and demonstrations where appropriate to help you strengthen your technique, experiment with colour, contrast, depth, and texture, and continue developing your unique artistic style. Students are encouraged to learn from one another through observation, discussion, and the sharing of ideas in a collaborative studio environment.

Lyndall McKee

Hi I'm Lyndall.I have been teaching watercolour classes at North Sydney Community Centre since 2007. I was encouraged to embark on a career as an artist by an award I received as a young teenager – the prestigious Certificate of Merit in the Department of Education's ‘Exhibitor of Child Art'. From this promising beginning I spent over 40 years studying, practising, exhibiting and teaching my craft. I started my career as junior to prominent illustrators Jenny Sages and Jon Hawley, progressing to senior positions as a visualise and illustrator for many of Sydney's leading advertising agencies. This has given me a sound understanding of the elements of graphic design and the creative process as it applies to the commercial world. My work is now centered on painting in watercolour and mixed media. I have exhibited widely, including two solo exhibitions. With the experience gained from a lifetime of studying art – full and part time – I have turned to teaching and now enjoy passing on my love of art to my students. I have taught illustration, drawing and visual techniques in graphic design, as well as the popular watercolours classes here at NSCC.
