Italian Advanced (B1)

Course Overview

Designed for students with a minimum 3 - 4 year study who wish to engage in active conversation and gain a deeper understanding of the language and culture. 

You are comfortable using past, present and future tenses with a vast vocabulary. You are generally confident in using your Italian language skills and seeking the opportunity to practise and keep improving. Grammar still has some more secrets to reveal to you and the audio-visual resources used in class will help consolidate its concepts and bring you closer to Italy. Not sure how much Italian you still remember after years of study? Wish to keep the memory of this beautiful language alive and give it a new spin? This class is also for you!

Course content

Week 1: family structures and challenges in Italy.

Week 2: the conjunctions sebbene, malgrado, nonostante.

Week 3: natalità in Italia e nel mondo, fare + infinitive. 

Week 4: impersonal form of the reflexive verbs.

Week 5: “tu” or “Lei”? Directions for use in Italy.

Week 6: Italian festivities and traditions.

Week 7: the adverb mica, past conditional.

Week 8: hypothetical statements expressing possibility.

This outline provides an overview of what may be covered during the course; however, changes may occur based on various factors and the needs of the class.

Course outcomes

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Introduce a topic with a question.
  • Justify an opinion.
  • Comment on statistics.
  • Outline the benefits and drawbacks of a condition.
  • Express dissent.
  • Make hypothetical statements.
  • Talk about your behaviour in certain circumstances.

Term 1 runs on Tuesday 4 February to Tuesday 25 March 

Term 2 runs on Tuesday 29 April to Tuesday 17 June 

Term 3 runs on Tuesday 29 July to Tuesday 16 September 

Term 4 runs on Tuesday 14 October to Tuesday 2 December

Elena De Felice

Elena was born and bred in Milan, speaks 5 languages fluently and has a Degree in Interpreting and an honours degree in Foreign Languages and Literature from Milan University.

Languages and communication have been her passion from a very young age.  

She has been teaching for over 20 years with great passion and is running yearly Tours to Italy to help students of all levels improve their Italian and discover Italian culture and lifestyle.
