Italian Intermediate Next Step (A2)

Course Overview

Deepen your Italian language expertise and refine your conversational skills!

A class for those who have completed at least 10-11 terms (160-176 hours) of Italian.

Achieve sufficient linguistic competence to understand and respond appropriately to everyday situations. Further grammatical concepts and vocabulary will be presented and practiced. The audio-visual resources tailored to the needs of the class, will bring you closer to Italy and its culture and give you the opportunity to tune your ears to the beautiful sound of this language. Participating in small conversations is highly encouraged in a fun and relaxing environment. 

Course breakdown

Week 1: review of material previously covered. 

Week 2: health and diet, informal irregular imperative (tu).

Week 3: food habits, negative imperative.

Week 4: food taste, festivals in Italy.

Week 5: body parts, health issues and specialists.

Week 6: formal imperative (Lei), position of the pronouns. 

Week 7: describing one’s relationship with sport.

Week 8: the plural imperative (voi), soccer in Italy.

This outline provides an overview of what may be covered during the course; however, changes may occur based on various factors and the needs of the class.

Term 4 runs from Monday 21 October to Monday 9 December

Course outcomes

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Give health advice. 
  • Express a need.
  • Talk about food and diet habits.
  • Talk about food taste.
  • Describe the symptoms of a health issue.
  • Discuss about sports activities and give advice.
  • Try to convince someone.

  • Recommended book “Nuovo Espresso 2", textbook/workbook (abbeys.com.au or amazon.com).

Term 3 runs on Monday 21 July to Monday 8 September

About the tutor

Roy Gerente

A passion for Italy and its culture took Roy on a life journey of exploration which started in Greece and led to her Italian citizenship.

She studied Italian language and literature and obtained a master's degree in teaching Italian to foreigners from the University of Venice. 

She taught Italian to adults and children for several years in group and individual settings. She has attended specialisation courses in Italy and worked in a corporate environment in Rome and Athens.

In her class, students are encouraged to participate in a fun and relaxing environment where mistakes are welcomed as friends.
