Italian Beginners Level 1 (Friday Nights)
Course Overview
This beginner Italian course is designed for learners who are starting to build basic communication skills for travel and everyday social situations in Italy.
The course focuses on simple practical language use, including travel communication, family relationships, and free time activities in Italian culture. Students will practise listening and speaking through guided interactive activities to develop confidence in using Italian in real-life contexts.
The required material for this course is the textbook Dieci A1 – Corso di lingua italiana per stranieri (Alma Edizioni). Additional learning materials will be provided by the teacher during the course.
Prerequisites:
Students should have completed an initial introduction to Italian or approximately 16 hours of beginner study.
Learners are expected to be able to:
- Use the present tense of common regular verbs
- Recognize the main parts of speech
- Use definite and indefinite articles
- Understand basic everyday Italian expressions
- Apply simple gender and number agreement
Course Breakdown:
Week 1: Lesson 1 – Social Life in Italy
Learn simple polite expressions for cafés and everyday social interaction.
Week 2: Lesson 2 – Eating Out and Travel Situations
Practice basic communication in restaurants and travel contexts.
Week 3: Lesson 3 – Asking Simple Questions
Learn how to ask for objects, people or information using basic question words.
Week 4: Lesson 4 – Family in Italian Culture
Learn basic family and relationship vocabulary.
Week 5: Lesson 5 – Booking and Practical Communication
Practice simple telephone communication and basic reservations.
Week 6: Lesson 6 – Present Tense Verbs
Learn common regular verbs ending in -are,-ere,-ire and irregulars
Week 7: Lesson 7 – Preferences and Free Time
Use volere and preferire to talk about simple likes, activities and free time.
Week 8: Lesson 8 – Articles, Plurals and Description
Review articles, plural forms and basic description using buono and bene.
Week 9: Lesson 9 – Time, Numbers and Travel Needs
Learn to ask simple questions about time, quantity and travel.
Week 10: Lesson 10 – Everyday Italian Role Play
Simulate simple real-life situations such as travel, family or social interaction in Italian.
