Swing Dance

Course Overview

Swing into Joy: Lindy Hop Dance Course!

Lindy Hop, also known widely as Swing dancing, is the American partner dance created in the “Savoy Ballroom” in Harlem, New York City.

This dance is the physical expression of Big Band Jazz Music specific to the 1930’s and 40's. Originating from African Americans' soulful and rhythmic movement, people now all over the world are enchanted and drawn to the joy and connection of this exuberant dance form.

In these classes students will learn the basic rhythms for Lindy Hop and immediately practice connection skills with a partner. Great Swing music will be played often throughout the class and students will have the opportunity to dance with different people.

Learning a partner dance heightens your sense of connection and community. The physical awareness developed while moving with a partner and the skill of “syncing up” teaches curiosity, patience, empathy and kindness. The rhythms in the body that coincide with Swing music encourages you to shake off stress and counts as gentle exercise.

Students will learn a short combination of movements which they can use on the social dance floor. It will also be encouraged that students mix and match the steps, thus beginning to improvise and really practice the skill of listening to the music and their dance partner.

Casual attendence is available for $25. To secure your spot, please give us a call or send us an email. Alternatively, you can make your payment directly to our tutor, Evita, on the night of the class.
