NUOVO Espresso 2 is aimed at post-beginner students therefore, they can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
The course includes:
Activities to consolidate and develop oral comprehension and production.
This course is organised to be interactive, and a variety of engaging methods will be used including exercises, audio-visual aids, games, role playing to facilitates learning and opportunities for listening and speaking practice to make the experience more enjoyable and effective.
Objective:
Practice overall listening comprehension with an informal dialogue and the consolidation of learned structures and vocabulary.

Expressing needs and giving advice
Talking about health problems; describing symptoms; giving health advice and guidance
What materials should students bring?
Nuovo Espresso2, (abbeys.com.au or amazon.com), a notebook and a pen.
Course Breakdown:
Week 1 : Revision through a guided conversation and interactive activities aimed to use the vocabulary and grammatical structures studied during the previous units (from 1 to 5).
Week 2 : Unit 6
- Talking about food and eating habits; commenting on flavours; expressing an opinion.
- Vocabulary: adjectives to describe tastes
- Grammar: The verb to serve
Week 3:
- Expressing needs and giving advice
- Grammar: The informal imperative; the negative imperative; the position of the pronoun in the imperative
Week 4:
- Review key points from Unit 6 (grammar and vocabulary) through guided conversation, role-play, and videos.
- What dish do you cook well? Share a recipe.
- Some famous Italian festivals and food traditions
Week 5: Unit 7
- Talking about health problems; describing symptoms (vocabulary)
- Giving health advice and guidance
- Talking about your relationship with sport
- Grammar:
Imperative use review; the position of pronouns in the imperative
Regular and irregular comparatives; the comparative and superlative of “buono’ e “bene”
Week 6:
Review of the key points of unit 7 through guided conversation, interactive activities, role play, and videos.
Conversation topic: comparing the Australian and Italian healthcare systems. Advantages and disadvantages.
Week 7:
Guided conversation:
· How You Interact with Social Networks / Internet vocabulary (unit 6)
· How to tell about a book or a movie (vocabulary)
· Videocorso unit 6
Week 8 :
· Talk about your experience learning a foreign language: give advice
· Videocorso unit 7
· Interactive group games
This outline provides an overview of what may be covered during the course; however, changes may occur based on various factors and the needs of the class.

Term 3 runs on Friday 25 July to Friday 12 September
Term 4 runs on Friday 17 October to Friday 5 December

About the tutor
Lara Toffolon
My name is Lara. I’m originally from the Venice area and have been living in Sydney since 2015. I hold both Italian and Australian citizenship.
I’ve been working as an Italian tutor for the past seven years, collaborating with a local language school and teaching both group classes and one-to-one lessons, in person and online. I create dedicated lesson plans to support learners at all levels in a positive, engaging, and motivating atmosphere. My teaching is interactive and student-focused, drawing on a wide range of materials, online platforms, and digital resources.
I’m passionate about communicative language teaching and love sharing Italian culture and traditions to bring the language to life for my students.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Italian Language and Literature from Ca’ Foscari University in Venice. To keep my skills up to date, I’ve completed Italian teaching courses for non-native speakers at the Universities of Perugia and Venice, as well as a Certificate III in Education Support from TAFE NSW (Meadowbank campus).
Before teaching, I worked in Italy for 15 years in the human resources sector, mainly as a recruitment consultant and counsellor. Teaching is a natural fit for my background and interests, and it allows me to continue connecting with people through my native language.
