Northside Produce Market June 21 Highlights
It's the season for fresh truffles, slow cooking, spuds, the best melted cheese toasties and it always goood to be learning new cooking skills...
Truffle lovers, due to earlier than usual frost on the La Truffiere farm in Bungendore near Canberra, Joelle says that their truffles have a strong aroma not normally experienced until July. Truffle tip - be quick to get your hands on one of Joelle’s home-made, hot truffle quiches – Lorraine and / or vegetarian.
It’s slow cooking season and The Free Range Butcher has an array of cuts perfect for stews and curries. Their beef is coming from Naparoo, a family-run farm near Coonabarabran and if you’re in the mood for a warming Massaman curry, ask for the brisket cut and ask Michele for their winner of a recipe.
The Gourmet Potato Hill are all about growing spuds for superb flavour and texture. Winston tells us that it has been an exceptional season in Robertson for virtually all of their heritage varieties, from the Russet Burbank to the Dakota Chief, La Ratte, Queen May, Royal Blue, Dutch Red and more.
Cheese On Wheels has got the cheese and cheesiest tips for you to make the most divine, melt-in-your-mouth cheese toasties from fresh buffalo mozzarella to an organic, Australian Reblochon-style washed rind and a nutty French Comté which stretches evenly grated or sliced, in or on top.
The preserving princesses Lisa Maude and Yvette Henderson, who you may know from the CWA stall and cooking classes at our North Sydney Community Centre, are holding their next hands-on workshop - Introduction to Marmalade on June 29th. Book here, so as not to miss out.
I am so looking forward to eating deliciousness at this market and spending time afterwards, cooking wonderful winter produce from the market.
With warm regards, Lisa.
