Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I book a room for next weekend?

A: Due to high demand and to avoid disappointment, we suggest people book a room with us at least 2 months in advance.

Q: What is the process to book a venue?

A:

  1. Check the availability calendar for your preferred rooms
  2. Fill out the Venue Hire Booking form and submit it.
  3. Centre receives your form and checks availability – enters your booking as ‘pending confirmation’
  4. Centre will contact you to confirm for your booking and take 30% non refundable deposit.
  5. Your booking is marked as ‘confirmed’
  6. Once your booking is confirmed, you will obtain Public Liability Insurance for your event (from North Sydney Council) and send evidence of PLI to the Centre.
  7. The week of your booking, you will pay the remaining balance and the Centre will send you an email with all the access and venue information you need for your party.

Q: How much is Public Liability Insurance and where do I pay it?

A: Public Liability Insurance is a compulsory fee of $52 to be paid directly to North Sydney Council

Q: How do I secure my booking?

A: A non-refundable 30% deposit secures your booking.

Q: What equipment do I have access to when I book a room?

A: As part of your hire, NSCC can supply the following equipment: trestle tables (75 x 180cm), adult chair, children’s tables (60 x 120cm), children’s chairs, hot water urn, portable stereo.

Please note the following equipment maximums: trestle tables: 13, children tables: 10, adult chairs: 30, children chairs: 20. If you require more than these maximums, please call the Centre to discuss options.

Q: Do the public have access to the playground?

A: Yes the playground is shared and a public facility.

Q: Do we have access to the kitchen?

A: We try to accommodate everyone, however, if the Kitchen is booked, you will not be able to access it under any circumstances. If available, there is a surcharge to utilise the Kitchen with your booking.

Q: Can I use the oven?

A: Normally if you would like use of the oven you will need to book the kitchen. This will mean you have sole access to the kitchen during your booking time.

Q: Can we have helium balloons?

A: Due to WHS reasons we cannot allow helium balloons INSIDE, as strings on the balloons get tangled in the fan motors, which can be a fire hazard. Please note the Fire Department call out fee is $1500 and charged to the HIRER.

Q: Where do I put my rubbish?

A: You are required to take all rubbish and recycling with you. Please remember to bring your own rubbish bags and boxes to take away recycling. These items can be deposited in the bins in the council car park near the Centre.

Q: Where can I park?

A: There is parking available at Ridge Street Car Park (free on weekends unless a special event has been arranged by North Sydney Council) and the Council Car park (free on weekends) off McLaren Street. If your booking is on a Saturday that coincides with the Northside Produce Market please note you may need to allow more time to secure a park in Ridge Street Car Park. There is no access to the rear of the Centre.

Q: Why is there a maximum room capacity?

A: To ensure you meet the Public Liability Insurance requirements and ensure an enjoyable experience for all users of the Centre. The maximum capacity is the total number of adults and children combined.

Q: What about cleaning for COVID-19?

A: There is a plastic tub with cleaning materials in the room on the day, and you will be provided with a cleaning checklist.

Q: Can we have dogs at the Centre and in the playground?

A: No, Under the Companion Animals Act 1998 - Section 14, dogs are prohibited 10m of any children's playing apparatus.

Q. Can I have a jumping castle?

A: Yes, you are most welcome to have a jumping castle in the playground (not in the building). A small or medium sized jumping castle will fit in the playground (maximum size is 5m x 5m). Please email officeadmin@northsydneycentre.com.au for more information.

Q. What furniture best fits in each room?

Jacaranda Room: 2 x adult tables & 15 x adult chairs with 3 x children tables & 20 x children chairs

Wattle Room: 8 x adult tables & 30 x adult chairs with 2 x children tables & 20 x children chairs
